British Jobs for British Workers?

From 'Sky News', 30 January 2009:

Hundreds of demonstrators are expected to hold a third day of action outside a Lincolnshire Oil refinery in protest at the use of foreign workers.

From 'The Independent', 10 September 2007:

Gordon Brown pledged to find "British jobs for every British worker" as the Government announced a crackdown on migrant workers and measures to help find work for thousands of jobless Britons.

This isn't a militant action. This isn't left-wing Unions striking for pay or conditions. This is, quite simply, skilled people who want to work but who aren't able to, while workers from other EU nations can.

The problem, as I see it, is that EU legislation seems to assume total freedom of mobility. This isn't the case. I don't think it's wrong to say that a local worker should - must - have priority if all other things are equal.

'British jobs for British workers' - another New Labour soundbite, another New Labour broken promise.

The company doing the work should have the right to choose who they employ.

I fully support free economic migration. This whole shambles has come about because British workers want too much money for their efforts:

Total, which owns the Lindsey refinery, said the contract for the new HDS-3 plant was awarded to Italian-based IREM after a tendering process.

So, they can whinge as much as they like, but while there is freedom of trading, this is what will happen. If the protestors lowered their wage demands, they'd win more deals.

It is not, to be honest, rocket science.

OK, so how do I compete with someone who doesn't HAVE TO PAY TAX?

Here's how it works in IT:

No IR35, so a saving of around 40%.

No VAT on expenses so a UK saving of 17.5%, European saving of approx. 20%.

So, living in fucking RIP-OFF UK, how can I compete with someone from INDIA?

I was forced to switch from IT to factory work, but I couldn't really compete there either, because:

I can't afford to pay Council Tax and Rent without Tax Credits.

Everyone else makes double my money on the tax credits!

The Pole's can claim for kids at home, whether they exist or not! But I can't!

The only way I can compete is by allowing my retired mother to pay some of my bills.

I'm now on the dole, but STILL can't compete because:

I have savings from my IT days higher than 6k! So I must spend them first!

While the other workers who lost their jobs at Xmas, got tax credits, have cheap council houses, get loads of benefits!

As far as I'm concerned, I'm a life long BNP voter from now on. FUCK FREE ECONOMIC MIGRATION. AND FUCK YOU RIGHTEOUS SOCIALIST SHITSTAINS WHO SAY I'M JUST TOO LAZY.

From what I hear on the radio, the contractors are objecting to an Italian firm saying that they will not hire local labour because they will not be able to 'manage' them ( ie don't speak English ).
How would they feel if a UK firm operating in Germany refused to hire Germans beacuse they didn't speak English ?
