PC Blakelock was hacked to death in October 1985 during the Broadwater Farm riots in Tottenham.
The news of the arrest comes as the Metropolitan Police struggles to regain any dignity following the conviction and jailing of former Commander Ali Dizaei on charges of misconduct and perverting the course of justice.
Metropolitan Police sources confirmed that Waad al-Baghdadi, 24, of London, had been arrested in connection with the brutal murder.
